Don Lemon Blasts Trump For Sending Gen. Kelly ‘Out to Defend His Bad Behavior’

CNN’s Don Lemon opened his program last night with a thoughtful critique on General John Kelly’s ostensible defense of President Donald Trump’s call to the grieving widow of Sgt. La David Johnson and the firestorm of controversy that it has engendered amid claims of false and real patriotism and politicizing the death of a U.S. soldier.

Lemon was clear in honoring both Kelly’s military service and his status as a Gold Star father himself before criticizing what he seemed to see as the White House Chief of Staff’s apparent hypocrisy in criticizing what’s no longer sacred these days.

Lemon pointed out Kelly lamented the current toxic political environment by pointing out what used to be sacrosanct — including how women used to be held in our society — before calling Rep. Frederica Wilson an “empty barrel.” But then Lemon listed the long list of examples of where President Trump failed to honor women (or even acceptable decorum) such as Rosie O’Donnell, Megyn Kelly, etc, and so forth, before sticking the landing with:

“What I’m trying to convey is that this isn’t about Kelly but about his boss, who didn’t have to send Kelly out there to defend his bad behavior. One of three generals he sent out today to cleanup his mess and vouch for his behavior in the wake of Niger. Kelly, Mattis, McMaster. All Trump had to say was I’m sorry, full stop. If he goes on to say something else, he could have said that was not my intention and I am deeply sorry.”
