Fox’s Rosen: Does Obama Endorsement Create Conflict of Interest Over Email Investigation?
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest took lots of questions about President Obama‘s Hillary Clinton endorsement today, but Fox News’ James Rosen wondered about a potential conflict of interest.
“I wonder if you could address for us,” Rosen said, “the potential conflict of interest that might exist when the President of the United States––the head of the executive branch––is openly saying I want this woman to succeed me in the Oval Office and you have other employees of the executive branch… working this case.”
He asked Earnest, “Isn’t there some conflict there?”
Earnest insisted there isn’t because career prosecutors will not be deciding the merits of the case based on politics.
Rosen asked if Obama’s endorsement sends them a signal about how he wants the investigation to conclude. Earnest insisted it doesn’t.
