Jason Chaffetz: ‘High Degree of Suspicion’ Over Why Clinton Ally Lanny Davis Is Cohen’s Lawyer
Former Congressman Jason Chaffetz questioned today why of all people Michael Cohen would have Lanny Davis as his lawyer.
With the latest developments about Cohen tapes and what the former Trump lawyer knew, Harris Faulkner said, “I think it’s fair to ask whether Michael Cohen, and he seems like a bright guy, had any sort of premeditation about those secret recordings… and then maybe a future fight that might unfold and he’d be postured to take advantage of that.”
Chaffetz said Cohen will probably lose his law license before saying, “One of the untold stories is: how is he financing this? From everything I’ve read, he is in some financial trouble.”
“He hired Lanny Davis!” Chaffetz continued. “He is in financial trouble. Of all the attorneys in the world, he picks Lanny Davis? The Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton fixer himself? That has a high degree of suspicion. And I think when we get to the bottom of who’s paying Lanny Davis to do this, who’s putting him up to it, that gets to be in the realm of big curiosity.”
Minutes later, when Faulkner talked with Chaffetz about the Trump Tower meeting and asked “what should we be looking for,” Chaffetz responded by bringing up Clinton:
“We should be looking at Hillary Clinton and the fact that they poured tens of millions into the Russians to get information that went into a fake dossier to spy on a presidential campaign. That’s something that actually matters. The idea that––’Did Donald Trump Jr. talk to his dad?’ Are you kidding me?”
