Jon Stewart Reveals Nightmare Meeting with Mike Lee After Senator’s MN Shooting Posts: ‘What the F**k Is Wrong with That Guy?!’

Jon Stewart detailed a disaster meeting he had with Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) while blasting the Republican lawmaker over social media posts making light of the targeted shootings of two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses.

Just hours after the shootings of State Rep. Melissa Hortman, the former Speaker of the Minnesota House, her husband Mark Hortman, and State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman, Lee took aim at Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) on his personal X account.

Hortman and her husband were killed, while Hoffman and his wife were treated at the hospital for gunshot wounds.

“This is what happens when Marxists don’t get their way,” Lee wrote in one post, which included an image of Vance Boelter, the accused shooter who is now in police custody after a massive manhunt over the weekend.

In another post, Lee used the same image — along with a shot of Boelter, and wrote, “Nightmare on Waltz Street,” likely referring to the fact that Walz appointed Boelter to an advisory board in 2019.

Stewart sarcastically called Lee “the best” on Monday’s The Daily Show where the comedian shared the story of him and a group of first responders meeting with Lee in 2019. Stewart recalled his visit to Capitol Hill in 2019 where he advocated for the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11 Victim Compensation Act, aimed at reauthorizing funding for 9/11 first responders’ healthcare.

Stewart recalled Lee’s meeting leaving more of a bitter taste in his mouth than others.

He said:

We had a team of Feel Good Foundation and a team of first responders with us. Firefighters, cops, other people. One of the cops had been in the first tower when it collapsed. All these first responders are going around the table and they are sharing their stories to try and get Sen. Mike Lee to support this bill that’s going to provide life-saving coverage and money to the victims of this terrible terrorist attack and the illnesses they are suffering since then. When the one cop says his story about being in the tower that collapsed and the aftermath, when he told Sen. Lee about that experience, Sen. Lee smiled and said, “Heh, I bet you’ve got a lot of stories.” Of fucking dead [guys]? Of like what? Spring break? Like, what are you talking about?

Stewart added that he and the first responders were all confused by Lee’s reaction after leaving the meeting.

“We met a lot of people in Washington. Some were hopeful, some of those meetings, some were upsetting meetings. That was the only meeting where we all walked out and looked at each other and went, what the fuck is wrong with that guy? The only one. I say this for context for why I use Sen. Lee as the avatar for the insanity of this moment,” he said.

The comedian blasted Lee for advocating in the past for funding to prevent crimes committed by illegal migrants, but not pushing for mental health funds or more in an effort to prevent shootings like in Minnesota and instead trolling on social media.

“I want to know why those deaths in Minnesota are worth only a night of edgelord shit-posting. No billions for mental health, no stopping illegal weapons trafficking, no nothing,” Stewart said. “We should ask him why. I bet he’s got some stories to tell.”
