Larry King: Piers Morgan’s Show Is ‘Too Much About Him’

 

Larry King had some tough words for the man who took over his 9pm time slot on CNN this week when he sat down for an interview with HuffPost Live’s Marc Lamont Hill. According to King, Piers Morgan’s biggest problem is that his show is “too much about him.”

“Piers is a nice guy, we’re acquaintances,” King told Hill, but when it comes to what he does on television, “it’s too much about him.” King said when he hosted Larry King Live all those years at 9pm on CNN, “I always tried to leave myself out of interviews. I didn’t use the word ‘I.’ The guest counted, I didn’t matter.”

“When you turn on a show, the guest should be talking 90% of the time,” King continued, noting that CNN has “got problems” overall, not just with Morgan. “When there’s a big story they get the viewers,” he said, “but big stories don’t happen every day.”

Asked what advice he would give CNN president Jeff Zucker about turning the network around, King could only come up with one suggestion: “Cartoons.”
