Laura Ingraham: ‘Really Unhelpful’ to Trump’s Agenda for Him to Be Slamming House Freedom Caucus
Conservative radio host and LifeZette editor-in-chief Laura Ingraham doesn’t think it’s a good idea for President Trump to be going after the House Freedom Caucus so much.
The caucus has been getting a lot of the blame for the American Health Care Act being pulled from the House floor, though there were a number of Republicans outside the caucus who came out against it too.
Trump has slammed the caucus numerous times on Twitter in the past week, even singling out certain members by name today.
After Trump’s most recent Twitter jabs, Ingraham took to Twitter with the following message:
Note to WH: More non-Freedom Caucus Republicans opposed the AHCA than Freedom Caucus members.

Attacking the Freedom Caucus won’t win @POTUS any plaudits from Dems; could alienate those R’s who stood by him when so many others ran.

What was Freedom Caucus’s @RepMarkMeadows doing in Oct 2016 when other Rs were denouncing @realdonaldtrump? https://t.co/eOFhotLW6Y

That last tweet links to a report from October wherein caucus chairman Mark Meadows was talking about applying pressure to oust Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House over his tepid support of Trump. Ingraham said on Fox News tonight that when “Ryan and company wanted to cut and run” in the last few weeks of the campaign, many of these Freedom Caucus members stood by him.
And so, she argued, it’s “really really unhelpful to Donald Trump’s ultimate agenda to slam the very people who are going to be propping up his border wall, all the things he wants to do on immigration, on trade — I don’t know where he thinks he’s gonna get his friends on those issues, unless he completely flips to become more of a Democrat.”
However, she did add that the health care failure is certainly not all on Trump. Ryan, Ingraham said, “should know his caucus better” and should have better prepared Trump for what he was going to face.
