Bill Maher Blames Harris Struggles on ‘Aggressively Anti-Common Sense’ Woke Left During Morning Joe Hit

Bill Maher told MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough that Vice President Kamala Harris’s biggest “challenge” in the final days of the election is convincing “undecided voters” that she’s not “sort of a stealth version of the worst excesses of the left.”

Maher sat down with Scarborough after a recent episode of Real Time where Scarborough joined Mark Cuban and activist David Hogg on panel. The Maher and Scarborough interview aired on Thursday’s Morning Joe. Maher railed against both political parties and identified himself as an “old school liberal” to distance his politics from the “woke” wing of the party.

“I consider myself an old school liberal. You have to make that distinction now because, you know, the word woke, which started out as a good thing, being alert to injustice and a lot of people get triggered by the word because when they hear it, they think of the old meaning, which was good,” the comedian said.

He argued that former President Donald Trump has a “coalition” of voters that includes plenty of people who “like” him and plenty of others who don’t, but they still prefer his brazen style to what they view as “stuff that strikes them as aggressively anti-common sense.”

Maher pointed to a pro-Trump ad running that knocks Harris for supporting taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for prisoners. Gender-affirming care was offered to prisoners under Trump’s administration, but Maher argued the ad is effective in that it hits key words for undecided voters. Harris has found herself cleaning up multiple past positions during her campaign, including her once-opposition to fracking.

Maher said:

“Kamala’s big, I think, challenge here to win over the undecided voters is to convince them that she’s not part of what they suspect she might be sort of a stealth version of the worst excesses of the left. I said there’s a coalition of Trump voters, people who really like him, there certainly are those, and then there’s people that don’t necessarily like him that much, but they still think he’s less crazy than stuff that strikes them as aggressively anti-common sense. And that’s why they keep running that ad about sex changes in prison.”

Maher recently predicted Harris will win the election, though the comedian appeared more worried about the chances in the latest Real Time where he warned Democrats that no “October surprise” is “going to save us from a second Trump term.”

“I predicted a month ago you’d win this thing and if you blow it, it’s going to make me look bad,” Maher said in an address to Harris during the show.

On Morning Joe, Maher said Harris needs to do more to distance herself from the extreme wing of her party.

“They just want her to say, look, I get this about my blue team and it’s on my to do list,” he said.
