Media Matters President Talks New Audio on MSNBC: Sounds Like You’re ‘Getting to See the Real Tucker Carlson’

Media Matters tonight dropped more audio from Tucker Carlson‘s old interviews with Bubba the Love sponge, and MMFA president Angelo Carusone appeared on MSNBC to speak with Chris Hayes about it.

Carusone appeared with Hayes opposite Carlson responding to the first Media Matters piece yesterday, railing against the liberal mob and saying the left has been trying to kill his show from the beginning.

The new audio tonight includes Carlson saying “If I didn’t like Canada, I wouldn’t consider it worth invading. I mean, Iraq is a crappy place filled with a bunch of, you know, semiliterate primitive monkeys — that’s why it wasn’t worth invading.”

Hayes opened tonight covering the comments from both Carlson and Jeanine Pirro, noting Carlson’s response that “Media Matters caught me saying something naughty” and that he won’t be apologizing.

Carusone told Hayes, “It sounds like you’re actually getting to see the real Tucker Carlson. In all of his profiles, they talk about how private he is, how he lives behind this really deep veneer… I feel like that’s the real Tucker.”

Hayes did note at one point how Carlson made the comments while being employed at MSNBC.

Carusone said, “If we just wanted to bombard with everything, I would have taken a lot of the hundred-plus hours that we listened to of Bubba the Love Sponge and Tucker Carlson, and I would have played a lot of random other clips, because he said a lot of awful things that are objectionable.”

Hayes said, “He said stuff you’ve chosen not to publish.”

“Tons,” Carusone said. “I think the argument for pulling this out now is, one, because of his relationship to the president and the consumption, two, that I think it gives some context and insight into what he does nightly on his programming.”
