‘Quite Embarrassing’: Scarborough Tears Into Gavin Newsom For Mocking Trump on Social Media
Joe Scarborough roasted California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) trolling President Donald Trump on social media, pointing to it as an example of Democrats being way off message.
During a discussion on the midterms and tense redistricting debates on Wednesday’s Morning Joe, Scarborough singled out Newsom imitating Trump’s famous writing style on social media as a way to mock the president.
In one post, Newsom’s press office responded to a picture of Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin from the White House Rapid Response account by posting, “TINY HANDS IS OUT HERE COPYING ME — BUT WITHOUT THE STAMINA (SAD), AND CERTAINLY WITHOUT THE ‘LOOKS.’ TOTAL BETA! — GCN.”
The message included an image of Newsom putting his finger to Trump’s chest as Trump is doing in the photo with Putin, which was taken during their recent summit in Alaska.
“Willie, you can see the Democrats are trying to find their footing. And it’s quite embarrassing, actually. I mean, Gavin Newsom. I mean have you seen what he’s doing online?” Scarborough told co-host Willie Geist.
Scarborough recommended Newsom take “a deep breath” and rethink turning “the ship 180 degrees.” The MSNBC host argued Democrats hyper-focusing on Trump is not the way to connect to voters, especially since Trump himself will not be on the ballot in the midterms or in 2028.
“They don’t know what to do. I have a good idea. Instead of trying to make school Donald Trump. Talk into the camera about affordability. Talk about making groceries like more affordable. Talk about what you’re gonna do for housing. Talk about you’re going to do for energy prices that continue to go up,” he said.
Scarborough compared the strategy to Democrats choosing to fight Muhammad Ali instead of Chuck Wepner, once an opponent to Ali.
“You’re not running against Donald Trump,” he said. “Go after Tweedledee or Tweedledum. You know, Chuck Wepner, a bleeder, go after him. All respect to Chuck Weppner.”
