Rand Paul Tells Hannity He Supports Christine O’Donnell’s Rejection Of The ‘Gotcha’ Media

Kentucky Republican Senate Candidate Rand Paul, who rose to prominence by winning his primary earlier this year on a Tea Party platform and then debating the Civil Rights Act with Rachel Maddow, spoke to Sean Hannity last night what many are calling the 2.0 version of himself: Delaware’s Tea Party hopeful Christine O’Donnell. Paul thinks she can win, if only she stuck to the economy and stayed away from national media.

Hannity introduces Paul as a surviving victim of the “gotcha” media for his previous experience on MSNBC, and compares him to O’Donnell for the way they are being portrayed in the media. Paul believes that O’Donnell’s message is strong, and all she has to do is ignore the national media and make sure voters get the right message: “I think she can win up there if she’ll talk about the economic message, if she’ll talk about how this administration is the most anti-business administration we’ve had… 70-80% of Democrats agree with term limits and a balanced budget amendment. That’s why the Tea Party is so potent.”

As for his own experience with the media, Paul admits that even after his strange media journey, he was getting calls from what he considered hostile sources to come back on the air. “After I was treated unfairly, some of these people from the networks called me back,” he explained. “How can I come back on when you bash me for three hours with something that’s untrue? You basically repeat something that’s a lie for three hours on the air and then you expect me to just waltz back on your show and have a good intellectual discussion.” In that context, he argues, O’Donnell was right to have canceled and stated she wanted nothing more to do with the national media.
