Tapper Inadvertently Offers Ben Carson Condolences on Death of His Still-Alive Mother

CNN’s Jake Tapper today accidentally offered his condolences to Ben Carson on the passing of his mother Sonya Carson. Only problem: She is very much still alive.

On the day he announced his presidential run, Carson called off a trip to Iowa so he could be with his critically ill mother and say goodbye to her.

Tapper ended his interview with Carson today by offering his condolences to Carson, but the neurosurgeon and GOP candidate told him that, thankfully, his mother “sprang back.”

Carson laughed away the brief awkwardness.

Update- 5:43 pm EST: Tapper emailed Mediaite and said, “I’ve never been happier to be wrong!” The last he heard of Carson’s mother was this report on her ailing health.
