Zelensky Admits He’s ‘A Little Bit’ Surprised Trump Is Now Fully Behind Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted he was “a little bit” surprised by President Donald Trump’s surprise announcement in full support of Ukraine on Tuesday.
During an interview with Zelensky on Fox News’ Special Report, host Bret Baier read out Trump’s social media post expressing support for Ukraine to reclaim its original borders from Russia, before asking, “Are you surprised to hear that?”
“A little bit,” replied Zelensky before laughing:
I mean, this– I am sure in my people, in my army, and I am sure in strengthening of the– in support of the United States. But President Trump was more positive in it and he showed that he wants to support Ukraine to the very end, so we understand now that we are ready to finish this war as quick as possible, and he wants and I want and our people want, but he understands that [Vladimir] Putin doesn’t want and he understands that he’s not winning but he says to everybody that he will win.
He concluded, “It was a surprise for me, you’re right. I was very positive signals from the sign that Trump and America will be with us to the end of the war. Yes. We will see, right? We will see, but God bless, it will be so.”
In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump performed a complete 180 on his stance on the Ukraine-Russia war after failing to negotiate a peace treaty between the two countries.
“After getting to know and fully understand the Ukraine/Russia Military and Economic situation and, after seeing the Economic trouble it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form,” wrote Trump, adding that Ukraine could perhaps “even go further than that!”
He noted, “Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years a War that should have taken a Real Military Power less than a week to win. This is not distinguishing Russia. In fact, it is very much making them look like ‘a paper tiger.'”
Trump then pledged to continue supporting NATO with weapons “for NATO to do what they want with them.”
