WATCH: All 51 Times Trump Was Compared to Hitler On Cable News After ‘Vermin’ Speech — In 219 Seconds
Cable news hosts were unsparing in ripping former President Donald Trump over comments he made about “vermin,” comparing him to Adolf Hitler dozens of times in a matter of days.
This passage from Trump’s Veterans Day speech in New Hampshire has been the subject of intense coverage on (2/3 of) cable news since Saturday:
We will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists, and the radical-left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country. The threat from outside forces is far less sinister, dangerous, and grave than the threat from within.
That passage is being widely pilloried as echoing the likes of Hitler and Benito Mussolini — by President Joe Biden’s senior advisers, The Washington Post, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, New York Times correspondent Maggie Haberman, and many more.
As Collins noted, “Hitler’s biographer once quoted the Nazi dictator as saying, ‘Should I not also have the right to eliminate millions of an inferior race that multiplies like vermin?’”
Other historians noted the parallels as well, how that sort of imagery was prominent in Nazi propaganda. The Trump campaign says such objections are the concerns of “snowflakes” — whose “entire existence will be crushed when President Trump returns to the White House.”
But on Fox News shows, the outrage has been directed at the media. On Tuesday morning’s edition of Fox & Friends, Kilmeade bitterly complained to his co-hosts that “They’ve called Trump Hitler 13 times over the weekend!”
And on Monday night’s edition of Fox News Channel’s The Ingraham Angle, Ingraham even put together a little clip package.
But as it turns out, the Fox hosts were wrong: it wasn’t 12 times, it wasn’t 13 times. Including repeats, there have been 156 mentions of “Trump” and “Hitler” since Saturday on CNN, MSNBC, and from Fox News and Newsmax — complaining about the other two, mostly.
We’ve put together a supercut of all — well, most — of those mentions, with some cut for repetition and a couple from broadcast. But you get the picture — the media was out in force tying Trump’s speech to Hitler, with a couple of conspicuous exceptions.
