Aaron Sorkin Says New Crop of Congressional Dems Need to ‘Stop Acting Like Young People’

On Sunday, West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin said he thinks the new crop of Democrats in Congress have some maturing to do.

During an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Sorkin first made it clear he really likes “the new crop of young people who were just elected to Congress.”

He then added: “They now need to stop acting like young people.”

Sorkin further stressed: “I think there’s great opportunity here, now more than ever, for Democrats to be the non-stupid party.”

In another comment that gained attention on social media, Sorkin also said that Democrats should be getting the word out that the party is”not just about transgender bathrooms” because “that’s a Republican talking point they’re trying to distract you with.”

As for the “young people” comment,  Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded by tweeting out the video with the comment: “News Flash: Medicare for All & equal rights aren’t trends.”

After LGBT advocate Charlotte Clymer questioned if Sorkin was trying to say transgender rights were a distraction in his remarks, Ocasio-Cortez also got into a discussion about Sorkin’s “gravitas.”
