Asia Argento Threatens to Sue Rose McGowan Over ‘Horrendous Lies Made Against Me’

The feud between two #MeToo icons has escalated, as Asia Argento released a Twitter statement demanding Rose McGowan retract her “horrendous lies” about sexual misconduct allegations leveled against Argento.

“Dear @RoseMcGowan. It is with genuine regret that I am giving you 24 hours to retract and apologize for the horrendous lies made against me in your statement of August 27th,” Argento wrote today. “If you fail to address this libel I will have no option other than to take immediate legal action.”

The tweet was a response to McGowan denouncing Argento in late August and claimed that a mutual friend of the two said Argento had sex with actor Jimmy Bennett, who was underage at the time of the alleged incident.

McGowan issued the following appeal to Argento in her statement: “You’ve spent and risked a lot to stand with the #MeToo movement. I really hope you find your way through this process to rehabilitation and betterment. Anyone can be better – I hope you can be, too. Do the right thing. Be honest. Be fair. Let justice stay its course. Be the person you wish Harvey could have been.”

Argento has since claimed that she was the victim in the alleged case, even though Bennett was 17 at the time. Bennett’s legal representation denies this allegation.
