CNN Stands By Reporter Abby Phillip After Trump Insults Her For ‘Stupid’ Question

CNN has released a statement defending their White House correspondent Abby Phillip after President Donald Trump called one of her questions about new Attorney General Matthew Whitaker “stupid.”
“@abbydphillip did not ask a “stupid” question today at the White House,” CNN’s PR team tweeted today. “In fact, she asked the most pertinent question of the day. The @realDonaldTrump’s personal insults are nothing new. And never surprising.”

During the incident that occurred outside the White House, Phillip asked Trump if he envisions his new attorney general getting involved in the Russia probe to limit special counsel Robert Mueller, to-which the president replied: “What a stupid question that is. What a stupid question. I watch you a lot. You ask a lot of stupid questions.”
Whitaker was appointed this week amid the administration’s ousting of Sessions, who had long been criticized by the president for recusing himself from the Russia probe during the early stages of his time as AG.
