Dana Bash: Trump Asking Comey About Investigation ‘Feels Like a Scene Out of The Godfather’
Earlier today, NBC News released a preview of tonight’s much-anticipated one-on-one interview with President Donald Trump. When asked by NBC News’ Lester Holt about his statement that recently fired FBI Director James Comey had told him three times he wasn’t under investigation. The president claimed it happened once at dinner and twice during phone calls.
Discussing Trump’s details about talking about an investigation involving him and his associates, CNN correspondent Dana Bash reacted by making a movie reference.
“That makes sense that that is the way you do business in New York,” she noted. “It does not make sense that that is the way you do business when you are the President of United States and you are talking to the FBI director.”
After explaining that it was a “double whammy” because the dinner conversation was about both an investigation and Comey’s future job prospects, Bash then likened it all to a scene from a classic film.
“Who decides if he’s going to stay in that job? The president,” she noted. “It almost feels like a scene out of The Godfather!”
Bash added, “But it’s not. It’s real. And it’s — it’s alarming. It really is.”
