DC Military Facilities Received Suspicious Packages; At Least One Reportedly Contained Explosive Material

The FBI has obtained multiple suspicious packages today after they were sent to military locations around Washington, D.C.

CNN reports that the the military facilities of Fort Belvoir and Fort McNair received suspicious packages that were eventually secured by law enforcement. The package sent to Fort McNair contained explosive material, though it was rendered safe after the National Defense University was evacuated.

The package sent to Fort Belvoir contained black powder, an expedient fuse and other components that might’ve been used as another explosive device. The suspicious materials were picked up on security scans and the package has been rendered harmless.

The news comes after several other military bases around the country experienced security incidents. This also comes days after the emergency situation in Austin, TX came to an end with the death of the bomber who was sending explosive devices around the city.
