DCCC Chair: Fundraising Off Impeachment ‘Not Our Strategy,’ but It’s ‘Moving Our Base’

House Democrat Steve Israel spoke at a breakfast this morning hosted by the Christian Science Monitor and brought up the impeachment issue. Israel is the chair of the DCCC, which not only raked in $2.1 million over the weekend with impeachment pitches, but as Israel tweeted early today, got $1 million just yesterday alone, again from all the impeachment talk.

Which begs the question: are Democrats cynically exploiting impeachment as a strategy to rake in the fundraising dollars?

Well, as the Monitor reports, Israel insisted they’re not. While he reportedly “sprinkled the word ‘impeachment’ like salt and pepper,” Israel said, “It’s not our strategy…. This is what [Republicans] believe.”

And while talk of suing and impeaching Obama may fire up the right, Israel said it’s doing wonders for the Democrats because it’s “moving our base in a big way.”

Earlier today House Speaker John Boehner said all the impeachment talk is just a big “scam” perpetuated by the Democrats.
