Dem Rep: Hillary’s Deplorables Remark Was ‘The Worst Line I’ve Ever Heard in Politics’
Democratic Washington, D.C. congresswoman and Hillary Clinton supporter Eleanor Holmes Norton said Monday that Clinton’s ‘basket of deplorables’ remark was the worst line she had ever heard a politician deliver.
Holmes Norton was asked her thoughts on The Bill Press Show about how Clinton had conducted her campaign so far. “She has some work to do, too,” Holmes Norton said. “Whoever wrote that line– that ‘deplorables’ line about half of somebody’s supporters being ‘deplorables,’ was maybe the worst line I’ve ever heard in politics.”
“You never– I mean, even when you’re running against a bunch of racists– you never take off against the voters. It was a Politics 101 foible,” she said.
Holmes Norton noted that Clinton completely recast the line during the second debate, claiming that she was trying to say Donald Trump himself was “deplorable.” “She tried to resurrect herself on that one,” she said.
