Following Backlash, The Onion Deletes Tweet Calling 9-Year-Old Oscar Nominee A ‘C**t’
The Onion got into trouble while tweeting about the Oscars on Sunday night. While the satirical outlet isn’t quite known for playing it safe, many felt they crossed the with a tweet about nine-year-old nominee Quvenzhané Wallis.
Not surprisingly, a wave of criticism followed — and after about an hour, the tweet was deleted. Among the many who criticized The Onion for a tasteless and inappropriate joke was Wendell Pierce, of The Wire and Treme. “Identify the writer,” he wrote. “Let him defend that abhorrent verbal attack of a child. You call it humor I call it horrendous.”

On the other hand, the tweet was favorited more than 400 times and received more than 500 retweets.
