French Mayor on Burkini Ban: If You Don’t Like How We Live, ‘Don’t Come’

burkiniRemember how that burkini ban in France was overturned last week in court? Well, some mayors are still keeping the ban going.

Cogolin Mayor Marc Etienne Lansade, from the nationalist conservative National Front Party, told CNN that he will keep it in place because it’s “humiliating for the women that are wearing them.”

As far as he’s concerned, there are women being forced to wear them who don’t want to and “we have to protect those people.”

However, Lansade also went on to frame the issue in extreme culture war terms:

“You have to behave in the way that people behave in the country that accepted you, and that is it,” Cogolin Mayor Marc Etienne Lansade told CNN.

“If you are accepted in Rome — do like Romans do,” he said, adding, “go in Saudi Arabia and be naked and see what will happen to you.”
