Ivanka Says She Was ‘Very Vehemently’ Against Her Dad’s Family Separation Policy: ‘That Was a Low Point For Me’

Ivanka Trump says she was very much at odds with the child separation border policy implemented by her father, President Donald Trump. And she admits that the controversy over the now-reversed policy impacted her greatly.

At a forum hosted by Axios, the First Daughter confessed to the public outcry being a “low point” over the first two years of her father’s administration.

“That was a low point for me as well,” she said. “I feel very strongly about that, and I am very vehemently against family separation and the separation of parents and children.”

Ivanka went on to say that, in her view, there’s no easy solution.

“I think immigration is incredibly complex as a topic, illegal immigration is incredibly complicated,” she said. “I am a daughter of an immigrant, my mother [Ivana Trump] grew up in Communist Czech Republic, but we are a country of laws. She came to this country legally.

“We have to be very careful about incentivizing behavior that puts children at risk of being trafficked, at risk of entering this country with coyotes or making an incredibly dangerous journey alone. These are not easy issues. These are incredibly difficult issues. And like the rest of the country, I experience them in a very emotional way.”
