Jeb Bush: ‘Please Help Me’ Understand Sharknado 3

What’s a good way for the presidential candidates to get in touch with younger voters? Welp, one surefire option is social media engagement — especially if the campaign can trigger or piggyback onto a viral trend. So of course former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and his team decided to latch onto the biggest thing out there, Sharknado.

Or, to be precise, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! The third film in the series aired on SyFy on Wednesday night, and according to the video, Bush caught the tail end of it. (Get it? C’mon, DO YOU GET IT?)

“I get to the hotel, like, 10:30 last night and I turn, I’m flipping around, looking at the cable stations and there’s this thing called Sharknado. And I think I see Ann Coulter as vice president of the United States, it’s kind of weird. And there’s sharks coming out of the sky. People are getting killed. The White House is being collapsed. The Washington Monument is going down. And low and behold, Mark Cuban is the President of the United States! This is the strangest show I’ve ever seen. What is going on? And then I find out this is the third version of this.”

Sure, it’s a rather easy attempt to get clicks, but it works. Especially since whoever running Bush’s Twitter account tweeted the video at Cuban:

And Cuban responded:

Do you understand Sharknado 3 yet, Jeb?

Oh well. At least your social media team got CNN, us and others to watch the video and write about it.
