Senator John McCain has a lot to say about Donald Trump, especially after Trump visited his home state of Arizona and railed against illegal immigration.
In an interview with The New Yorker‘s Ryan Lizza, McCain said of Trump’s rally, “This performance with our friend out in Phoenix is very hurtful to me. Because what he did was he fired up the crazies.”
He admitted there’s a “very extreme element” of the GOP that needs to be reigned in, and while the party has been somewhat effective, McCain’s worried that Trump may be riling them up again.
McCain also got in a dig at Marco Rubio for backing away from his own immigration proposals:
McCain licked his finger, held it up in the air, and laughed.
“You know that old song from before you were born?” McCain said, speaking of the Bob Dylan classic “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.”
