Larry Kudlow Describes How Trump Buttered Him Up: Told Me I Looked ‘Very Handsome’ on TV

On Monday — two days before President Donald Trump officially named Larry Kudlow his new economic adviser — Jim Cramer, a CNBC colleague of Kudlow’s, stressed the importance of Kudlow’s TV appearances in his being considered for the gig.

“The president, I believe, is listening to Larry Kudlow on our air and likes what he hears,” Cramer said.

Apparently, according to Kudlow, Trump also likes what he sees.

Hours after the announcement that he’d been named to the post, Kudlow joined CNBC to shed some light on how Trump came to offer him the job. As Kudlow tells it, the president called him this past Sunday after he’d gotten off the tennis court. That was the first of four straight days of lengthy phone conversations they had about the job.

A clearly flattered Kudlow was visibly appreciative of the calls.

“My head is not turned easily…but just to talk to him for 30 minutes, three, four days in a row is a wonderful thing,” Kudlow said. He added, “It was just a terrific experience. I don’t want to sound sophomoric, but it was a good thing.”

The incoming Cabinet member went on to say that Trump called him again on Wednesday after the news became public.

“He said, ‘You’re on the air. I’m looking at a picture of you. Very handsome.'” Kudlow said. “So Trump-ian.”
