There wasn’t much of a mask to begin with, but it slips a little more every day. In case there are any media figures who still doubt that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign is about anything other than white resentment and racism, there was a little-noticed moment at his speech in Las Vegas this past weekend that adds yet another shrimp to Trump’s racist barbie. While explaining to the crowd how he’s going to “Make America Safe Again,” Trump slipped up and explained exactly who the “us” he’s campaigning for is, and who isn’t “us”:
We wanna do it for everybody, not just us. We want to do it for everybody. We wanna help African-Americans…
After that interruption, Trump went on to his new talking point about black youth unemployment and its obvious connection to immigration from Muslim countries, but all you really need to know about Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is contained in that couple of seconds. Not just “us,” but everybody, even African Americans. That’s mighty white of him.
