NBC Reportedly Considering Long Suspension for Brian Williams
A decision from NBC on what to do about Brian Williams is imminent, and executives are actually considering suspending him for a lengthy period of time, according to a new report.
The Hollywood Reporter cites anonymous NBC sources to say that network executives, including NBC News president Deborah Turness, are going to reach a final decision within the next few days over what to do about Williams, amid the ongoing controversy over his history of misstatements and exaggerations.
Williams met with NBC CEO Steve Burke at his apartment over the weekend to reportedly discuss options. Those options include, THR reports, “a lengthy suspension and a full-throated apology.”
There’s no indication that they would fire him outright yet, though there are already rumors swirling about who would replace Williams. Lester Holt is filling in for Williams during his self-imposed hiatus, but names like Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie are being tossed around.
