MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace has not taken kindly to the GOP’s continued assault against the FBI, as part of their attempt to discredit Special Counsel Robert Mueller, recently asking if Republicans who pile on the intelligence agency are “dead inside.”
Wallace continued her tear against President Donald Trump and his surrogates today, slamming members of the Grand Old Party for attempting to lay the groundwork to dismiss whatever evidence the Russia probe ends up uncovering.
“I can’t get my brain around the insurrection in the Republican party against Republican-led law enforcement agencies,” she began. “I can’t shove the round pegs into the square boxes.”
“It’s making me crazy.”
The panel went on to discuss the winding road that got us here, bringing up how, just weeks ago, Mueller was being lauded on both sides of the aisle for being a wise choice to lead the investigation.
“It is astounding to see conservatives acting like the FBI, of all organizations, is some kind of liberal, deep state horror show,” panelist John Podhoretz — editor of the conservative Commentary Magazine — added.
“It is a bit on the tin foil hat side of conservatism to sit there and think that Rod Rosenstein, who is a Trump appointee, who works for Jeff Sessions, also a Trump appointee, are part of some grand conspiracy,” Wallace said, echoing the notion that it would not be a wise move by Trump to remove Mueller from the investigation.
Sen. Mark Warner, vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee investigating the Trump campaign’s potential ties to Russia, took to the Senate floor earlier this week to make an unusual address, warning the president not to fire Mueller over the holidays.
