Radio Host’s Bizarre Take on Sterling: ‘All Racists Must Be Atheists’
Donald Sterling‘s comments have inspired universal condemnation, but Colorado radio host Dan Caplis found a unique take on Sterling’s racist rant: he can’t possibly be a Christian because no racist can ever be religious, therefore all racists must be atheists. In comments picked up by the Friendly Atheist blog, Caplis says that not all atheists are racist, but if you are a racist, you are almost certainly an atheist.
Caplis argues, “Nobody who believes in God can be a racist, in my view, because once you believe God made us, you mean, God made junk? God many somebody lesser just by virtue of the color of their skin? So my starting point is always all racists must be atheists. They can’t possibly believe in God.”
His rationale is that no person who believes in God could possibly believe God “made somebody inferior just because of the color of their skin,” and after getting pushback on his radio show for the remarks he made it clear that he has nothing against atheists as a whole.
“I apologize if it was taken that way, but never could’ve imagined somebody would think I was saying that all atheists are racists. That would be a goofy thing to say. I was just saying all racists are atheists.”
