Rand Paul Jokes About Trading Democrats Instead of Gitmo Detainees
Republican Senator Rand Paul isn’t quite sure exchanging five possibly dangerous terrorists for Bowe Bergdahl was the best trade. No, instead, he joked, the U.S. should have sent over five Democrats instead. Paul made the joke speaking to the Texas Republican Party Convention today to applause from the crowd.
Paul has been critical of the White House over the Bergdahl deal, and today he joked about a way the Obama administration could make it better.
“Mr. President, you love to trade people, so why don’t we set up a trade. But this time instead of five Taliban, how about five Democrats? I’m thinking John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi. Couldn’t we send them to Mexico?”
And apparently Rand Paul’s team liked it so much, they also posted it on Twitter.
"Mr. President, let's set up a new trade. Instead of 5 Taliban, let's trade 5 Democrats!" #RPTCon14
