Trump Ignores Questions on McCain After Being Asked Multiple Times by Reporters
.@jonkarl: "Mr. President, do you have any thoughts on John McCain? Do you have any thoughts at all about John McCain? Do you believe John McCain was a hero, sir? Nothing at all about John McCain? OK." pic.twitter.com/82x4QP2Gbp

President Donald Trump‘s brief statement on the death of John McCain sent his deepest sympathies to McCain’s family, but said nothing about the man himself. And reporters today tried to ask the President about the Arizona senator today.
Trump and McCain clashed multiple times, and the President reportedly nixed a White House statement praising McCain.
Reporters rather directly tried asking Trump about McCain today at multiple White House events over the course of a few hours. But so far the President has not said anything. ABC News’ Jon Karl in particular documented his multiple attempts to bring up the issue:
In the Oval Office just now I asked @realDonaldTrump if he had any thoughts on the legacy on John McCain. He heard me but did not answer. pic.twitter.com/reVwoJCMzV

Standing about six feet from the President in the Oval Office, I once again asked the President about John McCain. Any thoughts on McCain? Anything at all about John McCain? Was McCain a hero? Nothing at all about McCain? He stared ahead and said nothing. pic.twitter.com/2TsPYohp9K

One more. This time, in the Cabinet Room, I asked the president to respond to the American Legion calling for a McCain proclamation and the lowering of the White House flags. No answer. “Why won’t you say anything about John McCain?” No answer. pic.twitter.com/D3INQB2ujS

(You can watch video of that second attempt above, via C-SPAN.)
Bloomberg’s Jennifer Jacobs tried asking too:
Trump didn’t look at me when I asked him in the Oval Office, “Sir, do you consider John McCain a hero?”

Trump refused for the fourth time today to answer our questions about his thoughts on John McCain.
The latest opportunity was in the Cabinet Room with Kenya’s president. WH comms staff yelled at us to leave the room to drown out our questions, but Trump heard us. pic.twitter.com/T8Xw5hCimO
