Trump Lambasted for Tweet Promoting Sheriff Clarke’s Book: ‘Your Fellow Americans Are Getting Flooded’
In between tweets on the response efforts to Hurricane Harvey, President Trump tweeted this morning a plug for Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke‘s book Cop Under Fire:
Available on Amazon and at your favorite bookseller.https://t.co/3eyhOFHHch pic.twitter.com/5fqomvUcwo
— David A. Clarke, Jr. (@SheriffClarke) March 29, 2017
A great book by a great guy, highly recommended! https://t.co/3jbDDN8YmJ
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 27, 2017
You may notice that Clarke’s tweet about his book is from March, so it’s not clear why the President promoted it now.
President Trump’s tweet plugging Clarke’s book was his first of the morning, before tweeting further about Hurricane Harvey:
Great coordination between agencies at all levels of government. Continuing rains and flash floods are being dealt with. Thousands rescued.

Many people are now saying that this is the worst storm/hurricane they have ever seen. Good news is that we have great talent on the ground.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 27, 2017
Clarke had been up for a role at the Department of Homeland Security, but later “rescinded his acceptance.”
A lot of people tore into the President for the timing of this particular tweet:
Drowning in a deluge of biblical proportions and dear leader wants us to read a book by an intolerant fuckknob decorated with flair https://t.co/ljJWWgzCBZ

People are fighting for their lives in Texas and this morally bankrupt ass is hawking the book of a dirtbag.
Heck of a job America! https://t.co/RGJg36LZfr

My city is underwater. People losing everything. Unrelenting storm. Medical/1st responders on NO sleep. Thanks for book recommendation, tho. https://t.co/T70sDWkRmM

People are still recovering from a hurricane and catastrophic flooding https://t.co/NJZy6RvGiC

This is an incredibly dangerous and catastrophic situation and you tweeted about a bad book before Houston

Amid vast destruction in Texas, the first public thing Trump did today was endorse a book by Sheriff Clarke. https://t.co/HC66Nv3Ral

What hurricane? What devastation? What catastrophic flooding? #PINTO (President in Title Only), staying true to form. Happy Sunday, America. https://t.co/xcjpmkG0no

Trump promoting a book by a guy who let people die in his jail while people in Texas suffer from catastrophic flooding. Disgraceful. https://t.co/FbGkeBghUP
