Twitter got the giggles on Thursday after Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) decided to make a…um, strange political metaphor about The Simpsons at CPAC today.
According to multiple reporters, the Texas senator had this to say when he took the stage at the conference:
Here’s your line from @tedcruz at @CPAC: “The Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson and Republicans are happily the party of Homer, Bart, Maggie and Marge.”

Cruz made his point while slamming Democrats for their renewed advocacy of gun control in light of last week’s school shooting in Florida.
Twitter mockery: GO!
Lisa Simpson was elected president at one point in the series.
She replaced Trump, who caused a budget crisis that Lisa inherits. https://t.co/3s2T7DVZxP https://t.co/lmyLlg5Fnr

“We are going to keep on trying to strengthen the American family…to make American families a lot more like The Waltons and a lot less like the Simpsons.” — George H.W. Bush, 1992 https://t.co/QAjO77gHwe

Well, Maggie did shoot someone, Homer has created environmental disasters and Marge is an ex-con with a gambling problem who, somehow, is still considered a moral center, so sure. https://t.co/8TBcqEQv7s

Lisa Simpson? The smart one who will succeed in life if everyone else doesn’t undermine her? https://t.co/VHFc1fSedo

But… Lisa Simpson is the smartest, most talented person in town. https://t.co/HtGxVeUtMn

Not sure I would’ve gone with this analogy.
Lisa’s best qualities are she is smart and kind, her worst are that she’s a wet blanket and kind of boring.
Homer and Bart are good hearted, but are dumb, and at worst, selfish and hedonistic.
Marge is sad and Maggie shot a guy. https://t.co/84tISZdjMZ

Lisa’s a Democrat, Bart’s a Libertarian, Marge is a swing voter, Maggie is a Marxist revolutionary.
Homer never registered to vote.

This seems right, I think Bart’s hanging out on 4chan and becoming radicalized though https://t.co/5xh0Hwi4Ww

Here’s what Simpsons showrunner Al Jean had to say:
.@TheSimpsons Ted Cruz says Maggie Simpson would vote for him.
I think Ted’s the one who could use a pacifier in his mouth.— Al Jean (@AlJean) February 22, 2018
It’s been established Cruz has an affinity for the show, though the creators have already made it clear that that’s a one-sided relationship.
