Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway Make Oscars Return, Present Best Picture to The Shape of Water
Hollywood legends Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway returned to the Oscars to present Best Picture after last year’s fiasco. And this year, they announced the correct winner on the first try: The Shape of Water
The Bonnie and Clyde duo were caught in the middle of the most controversial moment to ever happen in the history of the Oscars a year ago. When presenting the award for Best Picture in 2017, they announced that the winner was La La Land, when the actual victor was Moonlight.
It turned out that they were handed the wrong envelope before walking on the stage. The envelope they had read “Emma Stone – La La Land,” which was used to present Best Actress. Beatty showed hesitancy, which viewers initially thought was a humorous attempt to build suspense. He then handed the envelope to Dunaway, who immediately said the winner was La La Land.
Minutes later while the filmmakers behind La La Land were celebrating, the show’s producers stormed the stage and eventually Moonlight was rightfully given the award.
Fortunately, everything went according to plan in 2018.
The other nominees for Best Picture this year included Call Me By Your Name, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk, Get Out, Lady Bird, Phantom Thread, The Post, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
