The NCAA has said it will levy “corrective and punitive measures” against Penn State at 9 a.m. EST Monday in the wake of the child sexual abuse scandal involving former football assistant coach Jerry Sandusky and the alleged cover-up measures taken by high-ranking officials within the football program.
When the NCAA announced that it would punish the football program, it disclosed no details as to what exact measures. Instead the association only said that NCAA President Mark Emmert and NCAA Executive Committee Chairman Ed Ray will be at the news conference.
As NBC Washington notes: “If precedent holds from recent cases, Penn State will face a loss of scholarships and a multi-year ban from bowl games – and with it, the financial windfall and showcase that comes with postseason play.”
