WATCH: Liz Plank Doles Out Awards to Sportscasters in ‘The Wide World of Sexism’
This year, we’ve seen a lot of coverage indicating that the Olympic announcers and writers have been pretty sexist. From the Mercury News announcing Simone Manuel‘s big night as something Michel Phelps shared with “[an] African-American,” to the Chicago Tribune calling Gold Medalist Corey Cogdell the “wife of a Bears lineman,” there was plenty to go over.
Don’t forget those NBC announcers who claimed that Katinka Hosszu‘s husband was responsible for her setting a new world record! That’s been a theme this year.
Vox‘s Liz Plank compiled all of these perceived sexist incidents into one segment called “The Wide World of Sexism.” Check it out:
She narrated it like a sports show, which was fitting. Watch above to see which other moments from this year’s Games she chose to highlight.
