Fox’s Mike Huckabee Claims Women Who’ve Had Abortions ‘Probably Got Talked Into’ Them
Fox News contributor and Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee suggested that women who get abortions lack the agency to decide for themselves to undergo the procedure.
Appearing on Wednesday’s Hannity for a post-mortem of Republicans’ poor showing in Tuesday’s elections, Huckabee addressed abortion, which featured prominently in some of the contests.
In Ohio, voters elected to enshrine abortion rights into the state’s constitution by a margin of 13 percentage points. Meanwhile, in Virginia, Republicans lost the House of Delegates and failed to take control of the Senate. Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin pledged to impose a 15-week abortion in the state if the GOP were given full legislative control. That promise seems to have backfired.
“We don’t seem to understand that we need to quit playing defense and start playing offense,” Huckabee said. “It’s really hard to score when you don’t have the ball. And Republicans keep fumbling and give the other team the ball.”
The former governor went on to state that women are victims of abortion because they “probably got talked into” having the procedure.
“We recognize that an abortion has two victims,” he said. “Obviously, the unborn child, and the other victim is the woman who’s the birth mother, who probably got talked into abortion by a boyfriend, a friend, a mother, a grandmother, maybe a father. And the fact is, we’re not wanting to punish that woman in any way. We want to reach out and show her compassion and assistance, maybe to keep the baby, maybe to find an adoptive parent. But never to condemn her.”
