Bill Maher: What Franken Did Was Gross, But He Shouldn’t Be ‘Lumped In’ with Moore, Spacey, Trump

During his monologue on Friday night, Bill Maher weighed in on the controversy surrounding his friend Al Franken.

“Very disturbing,” he began. “I was so shaken, I called Bill Cosby to see if he had anything that could calm me down.”

The Real Time host recapped Franken’s actions, which including taking a picture of himself groping Leann Tweeden while she was sleeping and forcibly kissing her on the mouth for a skit during their 2006 USO trip to Afghanistan.

“Al’s a friend, but Al- I gotta to tell you,” he addressed the Democratic senator, “If you write a comedy sketch where you, Al Franken, kiss a model and her next line of dialogue isn’t ‘Get off of me, creepy!’ it’s not comedy; it’s science fiction.”

Maher told his audience that he “did a bad thing” and that deserves the condemnation he’s been receiving.

“What he doesn’t deserve is to be lumped in with Roy Moore!” Maher exclaimed. “Or Kevin Spacey! Or Harvey Weinstein! Or Donald Trump!”

He then slammed the president for calling his accusers liars and threatening to sue them and compared Franken’s one incident to Trump’s 16 accusers and Moore’s 9 accusers.

“Roy Moore has spent more time chatting up young girls at the mall than Santa Claus!” Maher quipped.

Maher called for another #MeToo campaign where people can tell “two unlike things apart.”

“I know the difference between a man who once acted like a dick and a man who is a dick- me too!” he elaborated. “I know the difference between someone who behaved like a high schooler and someone who targeted high schoolers- me too!”
