Brian Stelter Pays Emotional Tribute to Anthony Bourdain: ‘One of the Greatest Storytellers of Our Time’
“A father, a chef, a correspondent, a poet, a renegade, an international TV icon,” CNN’s Brian Stelter described late colleague Anthony Bourdain on Reliable Sources, who shocked the world by taking his own life on Friday.
“Anthony Bourdain was one of the greatest storytellers of our time, and most of all a friend, a friend to millions of viewers who never got to meet him,” an emotional Stelter continued.
“I’m sorry I’ve been dreading this conversation,” he said. “I know it’s been a couple of days, but it is still so raw.”
“Bourdain joined CNN five years ago, and changed us forever,” Stelter continued. “Remember we didn’t have shows like Parts Unknown back then. He took a risk by coming here, and CNN took a risk on him. It ended up being incredibly rewarding for everyone.”
Stelter aired photos of some of the tributes to Bourdain at CNN headquarters in Atlanta and New York.
“The world was his oyster. He often did his reporting from the dinner table, or while walking on the beach. He was that friend we watched and we journeyed with to parts unknown.”
Stelter then interviewed journalist Jason Rezaian, who was imprisoned in Iran for more than a year after Bourdain interviewed him for his show.
