Chuck Todd: Clintons Ready to Run ‘Ugly’ in 2016
MSNBC host and NBC News Chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd told the cast of Morning Joe on Friday that, if this week proved anything, it is that the Clintons are “ready” to run in 2016. He said that the way in which Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton responded to Karl Rove’s attack on her cognitive health indicates that 2016 will be “ugly,” as opposed to the positive messages that dominated the 2008 race. Todd added that he is not looking forward to the “tone” of that campaign.
Todd began by saying that the focus of Republicans has shifted to attempting to make Hillary bow out of the 2016 race; from attacks on her record on Benghazi, to her State Department’s failure to list Boko Haram as a terrorist organization, to her mental faculties.
“To me, the thing that I learned this week from this little spat is how the Clintons are ready,” Todd asserted. “It was a very aggressive pushback.”
“That told you we’re not going to have a hope and change election in ‘08,” he added. “We’re going to have a no-holds-barred, ugly fight. ’88, ’92 — think that. And the Clinton team seems ready.”
“It’s going to be an ugly race,” Todd concluded. “I have to say I’m not looking forward to that tone and tenure in ’16.”
