CNN’s Toobin: Comey Was Fired Because His Investigation Was ‘Getting Too Close for Comfort’
Immediately following the absolutely shocking news of FBI Director James Comey’s firing, CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin was pretty much on fire with hot take after hot take on the bombshell announcement.
And he wasn’t done.
Toobin tore apart the rationale used by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein for Comey’s termination, pointing out that it was “disgraceful” and “absurd” to attach the firing to the way the director handled the investigation into Hillary Clinton.
However, he saved most of his righteous indignation for the president, taking aim at Donald Trump for ousting Comey while the FBI is running an investigation into his campaign.
“This is not normal,” Toobin exclaimed. “We do not fire FBI directors when they are closing in on the White House.”
Asked to give his belief as to why Comey was pushed out, Toobin didn’t mince words.
“Because the FBI is running an investigation of Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia and apparently it’s getting too close for comfort,” he stated. “That’s the only rational conclusion that you can draw from this firing!”
