Fox’s Bret Baier Presses Republican Senator About Accusation From Former Host Tucker Carlson

Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier pressed Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) about Tucker Carlson’s claim that the senator blocked the release of files related to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy.

At the end of his Special Report interview with Cotton on Tuesday, Baier asked:

Last thing before I let you go. Daily Mail article: “Tucker Carlson has claimed that Republican Senator Tom Cotton has been working behind the scenes to block the release of the JFK assassination files. In a conversation with Chris Cuomo, Carlson claimed the Arkansas lawmaker prevented a key intelligence hire in the Trump cabinet in order to stop the full release of the classified documents.” Your response?

Cotton laughed before replying, “It’s false. Completely false. I have no problem releasing the JFK files. Tucker could have called or texted me. He has texted me multiple times in recent weeks. Had he asked me, I would have told him that.”

The senator claimed:

I’ve never spoken to President Trump or any of his associates or administration officials about the JFK files. I’ve never objected to someone taking office because of their position on the JFK files. I have to say, I have complete faith in Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, John Ratcliffe, and Tulsi Gabbard to carry out President Trump’s directive on the JFK files. I’m a little surprised that Tucker Carlson apparently doesn’t have faith in those four people, all of them I think he knows and personally respects, that they’re gonna carry out President Trump’s directive.

Cotton then insisted that he had no idea what was in the JFK files, telling Baier, “To be clear, I don’t really know what the so-called JFK files might contain. I’ve read news reports that there’s about 3,000 documents that have not been released yet. I think they’re going through a declassification review process at the Department of Justice, at the DNI, and at the CIA.”

He concluded, “Again, I have total confidence in Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard and John Ratcliffe and Pam Bondi that they’ll release those as appropriate as the president directed. I have no problem with that.”

Carlson has only sparingly been mentioned on Fox News since his ousting from the network in April 2023.
