Joe Scarborough: Investigation of Jeff Bezos Was ‘Directed Hit Job’ by Pro-Trump National Enquirer

Joe Scarborough thinks National Enquirer committed a pro-Trump “hit job” against Jeff Bezos in light of how the tabloid is taking credit for the Amazon CEO’s divorce.

Mediaite previously reported on how the Enquirer published several explicit text messages from Bezos’ extramarital affair as he prepares to finalize his divorce with his wife of 25 years. Last night, the Enquirer drew attention over a statement they released saying they followed Bezos for months to document his liaison.

As Morning Joe talked about the news that Michael Cohen will publicly testify before Congress, Scarborough noted that Cohen and the Enquirer were both pivotal to President Donald Trump‘s illegal hush money schemes from 2016.

Since Enquirer publisher David Pecker has already admitted to Robert Mueller that the tabloid allowed itself to be used as Trump’s attack vehicle, Scarborough wondered if their coverage of Bezos was an extension of that, given the president’s hatred of him.

“Why is it that they spend hundreds of thousands of dollars and go to extraordinary lengths to try to destroy the life of Jeff Bezos, a man who has been enemy number one of Donald Trump almost from the beginning of this administration? Are they — are they still doing the same thing for Donald Trump that they did before they struck a deal with Robert Mueller?”

Scarborough went on to conclude in the end that “this was a directed hit job and the only people that would know about Jeff Bezos and care about him going down might be his competitors, but also Donald Trump.”
