Mitch McConnell Warns Against Closing Border: Would Have ‘Potentially Catastrophic Economic Impact’

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made it clear today he’s troubled by the idea of closing the border, as President Donald Trump has threatened.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said today it’s not the administration’s first choice, but Democrats are leaving them “no choice” on the matter.

McConnell today expressed serious concerns at this idea:

“We certainly have a crisis at the border, I think the president’s right about that. Closing down the border would have potentially catastrophic economic impact on our country and I would hope we would not be doing that.”

The president himself acknowledged the economic consequences this afternoon, but said “security is more important to me than trade.”
