“President Obama is declaring war on the Republican Party,” Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly said at the top of his show Thursday night. He was referring to President Barack Obama’s proposed executive actions that would protect nearly five million undocumented immigrants from deportation. Or, in O’Reilly’s words, give them “amnesty.”
The host called Obama’s move “insulting” to the new Republican-led Congress that will be sworn in next January. On their behalf, O’Reilly proposed the various “consequences” Obama can expect in return, including the blockage of a spending bill which would “paralyze” the government.
“All of this [is] terrible for the country and Mr. Obama has to know that, but he doesn’t seem to care,” O’Reilly continued, arguing that the president only wants to move forward with his immigration action because he’s “seething” over the midterm election results.
“If the new Congress didn’t come up with a workable immigration plan, then the president could justify his executive order, at least as a last resort,” he said. “It’s impossible to justify it now.” Of course, Congress has been trying and failing to come up with some sort of compromise on immigration reform for years.
By attempting to do what he can on his own, O’Reilly said Obama “mocks the Founding Fathers and the Republican Party.”
