‘That’s a Lie!’ CNN’s Abby Phillip Dismantles Tucker Carlson’s Russian ‘Propaganda’ on Behalf of Vladimir Putin
CNN’s Abby Phillip is having absolutely none of this Tucker Carlson in Moscow to interview accused war criminal Vladimir Putin bullshit.
The former Fox News star turned struggling internet influencer posted a video on Tuesday from the Russian capital where he preemptively defended an interview he’d scheduled with the Russian dictator. Carlson has long drawn reasonable criticism for being a Putin apologist, so while his scheduled chat with Putin is predictable, it’s no less embarrassing for everyone involved.
Phillip opened a segment with clips of Carlson making absurd claims, which she said simply: “Tucker Carlson is lying from the streets of Russia, no less.” She then proceeded to call out claims he had made — like his absurdly saying, “Not a single Western journalist has bothered to interview” Putin by replying, “That’s a lie,” echoing comments made by her CNN colleague Christiane Amanpour.
Perhaps the most notable retort came after Carlson bizarrely said, “We’re in journalism,” to which the CNN host said, “Tucker Carlson is not a journalist. Not even close.”
To prove her point, she quoted a legal filing from his former employer, Fox News, who said of Tucker Carlson Tonight, “The general tenor of the show should then inform a viewer that Carlson is not stating actual facts about the topics he discusses, and is instead engaging in exaggeration and non-literal commentary.”
Understandably, Phillip opted only to air a few of Carlson’s lies. Still, she did let pass Carlson’s curious claim that “the war in Ukraine has been a human disaster that’s left hundreds of thousands of people dead,” as if the man he is set to interview, Vladimir Putin, is not directly responsible for those deaths!
Phillip introduced Puck co-founder Julia Ioffe, who is an expert on foreign affairs, for a convivial yet exasperated chat about Carlson’s duplicity. The segment culminated with Phillip flatly noting, “Tucker Carlson doing the propaganda work of basically Russian state media for them.
Damn right.
