The View’s Joy Behar Floats Wild Trump Theories That He’s Tanking Economy for Billionaire Buddies, Making Himself ‘Dictator’ Through Martial Law

The View’s Joy Behar floated multiple conspiracy theories about President Donald Trump, arguing it’s possible Trump is deliberately tanking the stock market as a way to eventually become “dictator.”

On Wednesday’s The View, Behar pushed two theories about Trump and his current trade war that she separately credited to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Democratic strategist James Carville. Both Behar and Whoopi Goldberg that both theories about Trump being on a mission to “destroy the country” are “possible.”

“I had a cold yesterday so I was home watching everything. And I’m thinking, he’s trying to destroy the country. Now, why is he doing that?” Behar said.

She then presented the two options, the first of which is a scenario where the president is using tariffs against other countries to deliberately create uncertainty in the markets and cause them to tank for his “billionaire friends.”

“First of all, if he tanks the entire — what do you call it…the stock market, all his billionaire friends can swoop in and buy everything low. That’s not an original idea. Hakeem Jeffries said that. And in fact today on Truth Social, [Trump] wrote, ‘a great time to buy.’ Hmmmm,” Behar said while giving a conspiratorial look to the audience.

Jeffries told reporters this week that the president is “intentionally tanking” the economy to create buying opportunities for wealthy donors.

“The Trump tariffs, which are a tax on the American people, are so reckless, so un-strategic, so lacking in any sophistication that the only conclusion that one can draw is that Donald Trump and the Republicans are intentionally tanking the economy,” he said.

Behar credited the second Trump theory to Carville, though it actually came from a pair of podcast listeners on his Politics War Room show.

“The other theory is from James Carville, which I think is interesting, that he wants to stoke such instability and chaos to consolidate power for himself. So the people start to really go nuts, which we’re starting to,” she said.

On Carville’s podcast, the political strategist told listeners that they were “correct” to worry about Trump possibly “rigging” upcoming midterm elections or even declare martial law. He told his listeners to be on “high alert.”

Behar argued Trump could create so much “chaos” that he declares martial law and crowns himself “dictator.”

“How mad will people get, and how broke will people get, and how many jobs will be lost and then he can say, well, there’s too much chaos and now we’re going to have martial law and becomes a dictator. I mean, I don’t know. That may be out of the bounds,” she said.

“Anything is possible,” Goldberg threw in.

“But it’s possible,” Behar agreed.

Check out the exchange below:

JOY BEHAR: What is his exact plan is what I want to know. I had a cold yesterday so I was home watching everything. And I’m thinking, he’s trying to destroy the country. Now, why is he doing that? Just as a person in the audience watching this, so there’s a couple of theories. So there’s a couple of theories. First of all, if he tanks the entire — what do you call it…the stock market, all his billionaire friends can swoop in and buy everything low. That’s not an original idea. Hakeem Jeffries said that. And in fact today on Truth Social, [Trump] wrote, ‘a great time to buy.’ Hmmmm. The other theory is from James Carville, which I think is interesting, that he wants to stoke such instability and chaos to consolidate power for himself. So the people start to really go nuts, which we’re starting to.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: No, we’re not.

BEHAR: Well, people are starting to get mad.

GOLDBERG: Well, that’s good. You want them to get mad.

BEHAR: But how mad will people get, and how broke will people get, and how many jobs will be lost and then he can say, well, there’s too much chaos and now we’re going to have martial law and becomes a dictator. I mean, I don’t know. That may be out of the bounds.

GOLDBERG: Anything is possible.

BEHAR: But it’s possible.
