Trump Calls Fox News During Columbia Protest and Slams Chuck Schumer: ‘I’m Watching Jewish Politicians Abandon Israel’
Former President Donald Trump phoned Fox News on Tuesday night as police cleared Columbia University of anti-war protestors, some of whom were occupying Hamilton Hall.
Trump, who is in New York for his criminal trial, slammed the demonstrations against Israel’s war in Gaza, which has entered its seventh month. The former president spoke with Sean Hannity, who recalled the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks launched against Israel from Gaza. Hamas militants killed 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped more than 200 others.
“I witnessed a 48-minute tape that I wish the entire country could see,” Hannity said, referring to footage of the attacks. “And what I’m trying to understand here is America right now doesn’t seem to have moral clarity. And that is, this should be and 99 to 1% issue where people understand that the state of Israel had the worst terror attack in their history.”
Hannity bemoaned the fact that Israel, which has killed more than 30,000 Gazans since Oct. 7, is being called on to end the war.
“I’m having a hard time understanding why don’t members of Congress, why aren’t these students, why aren’t political figures not understanding that there is good and evil here and radical Islamic terrorism is the evil part of this,” Hannity told Trump.
The former president responded by reiterating his criticism of Jewish politicians who, he says, are not supportive of Israel. While doing so, he named Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY):
Well, I’m watching Jewish politicians abandon Israel, and I’ve seen it and you have seen it. Where is Schumer? Why isn’t Schumer speaking up? He was always out there in front. Because he’s looking at votes, I guess. And I guess he’s maybe looking at more votes than represent Israel [sic].
Trump went on to call the protestors, “brainwashed.”
Last month, the former president said Jews who vote for Democrats “should be ashamed of themselves.”
“Any Jewish person that votes for Democrats hates their religion,” he said. “They hate everything about Israel and they should be ashamed of themselves because Israel would be destroyed.”
Schumer, who had called for Israel to hold new elections amid Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s prosecution of the war, blasted Trump in response, calling his remarks “utterly disgusting.”
