WATCH: CNN Reporter Detained by Police Live on Air from Turkey

CNN correspondent Ivan Watson was reporting live on air from Istanbul, Turkey Saturday when he was detained and kicked by police there who demanded to see his press credentials. Watson was in the midst of telling viewers about this weekend’s protests that will mark the one year anniversary of the clashes between demonstrators and police in Taksim Square when authorities there interrupted his report asking, “Are you journalist?”

When Watson and his crew identified themselves as CNN, the men demanded to see their passports and journalist cards. “I’m being detained right now,” Watson said. “I’m being kicked.” At that point, CNN’s camera was no longer able to capture what was happening.

Shortly after he was dragged away, Watson used his Twitter account to give updates on the situation:

After being detained for 30 minutes, the crew was released and the officer who kicked him apologized:
